ABOUT / THE PERSON BEHIND AFTERHOURS

Korhan Şen.

Researcher. Writer.
Connecting evidence with possibility.

I am a textile engineer with a master’s degree and more than six years of experience across R&D, design-centre coordination, sustainability, digital transformation and project development. My work brings scientific research, industrial practice and clear technical communication into the same conversation.

A CROSS-DISCIPLINARY PERSPECTIVE

From the laboratory
to the bigger picture.

My foundation is in textile science and engineering. Research on fibres, fabrics, performance and marine antifouling systems taught me to ask precise questions, evaluate evidence and translate findings into practical development work. I later carried that approach into sustainable product innovation, digital prototyping and the coordination of R&D and design projects.

My consulting experience extends beyond textiles to software, information technology, banking, insurance, machinery, automation, artificial intelligence, healthcare, financial technology and interior architecture. I have worked with company owners, senior management, technical teams, universities and external advisers to turn a development need into a coherent project scope, work plan, budget and technical narrative.

Afterhours Research Notes is the independent publication I founded to share that way of thinking. Here, I write about materials, sustainability, digital futures and the questions that connect them. My aim is to make research easier to engage with, while keeping published findings, personal interpretation and proposed next steps clearly distinguishable.

RESEARCH & SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS

Materials, performance
and responsible innovation.

My research background connects textile performance, sustainable raw materials, functional treatments and the development of practical testing approaches.

8Peer-reviewed article contributions
5Conference-paper contributions
2Utility-model applications supported

I have contributed to research on regenerated cellulose fibres, hemp-containing knitted fabrics, colourfastness and dimensional stability, textile recycling and innovative raw materials, sportswear comfort, plant-fibre modification for composites, and antifouling treatments for polyamide and aquaculture nets.

My scientific contributions include eight peer-reviewed articles, three international conference papers and two national conference papers. The publication and presentation record includes work appearing in The European Journal of Research and Development, Tekstil ve Mühendis and Coloration Technology, as well as STRUTEX, RDCONF and ICONTEX proceedings. Two conference projects received recognition as the third most successful project and the fourth most innovative project, respectively.

Alongside research and industrial development, I have supported academic-assistant activities within the İTÜ–SUNY programme and contributed to innovation and commercialisation systems through the İHKİB–TİM İnoSuit programme. I have also worked on the technical documentation and development activities of two utility-model applications.
